The Mountains Call and I Must Go…… 10 July 2023

John Muir’s quote echoes through our minds as we prepare to hike to the top of Cascade Pass.

We eat some gorp and clementines and leave the rest of our snacks in the Jeep. H20 will be our sustenance. The hike is 3.7 miles up with a 2000+ elevation gain…probably a three to four hour roundtrip with photo stops. Food should not be a problem.

With the bear warnings front and center on our minds we get an overwhelming musky animal smell about two thirds of the way to the Pass. We maintain our gait and slowly turn around expecting a bear…we find a couple of Mountain Goats. While we love to see bears in the wild the smell indicated the animals were close so we were relieved to see the goats.

The top of the Pass with Sahale Glacier in our sights.

Yes, The Mountains Called…we took heed.

Peace…Wanderers in Wonder.
