Beachcomber John 9 July 2023

John Anderson, Andersonville Avenue, Forks, Washington, grew up in Forks, loved walking the beach. He became the go to plumber in Forks. Twenty years ago with his business well established, John took his beach walking to a new level and became a serious beachcomber. All of the items in the pictures that follow were collected by John or his two brothers and two brothers-in-law. Their wives got tired of their ‘beachcombing treasures’ littering their yards and all of the boys treasures ended up with John. John’s wife puts up with his beachcombing. Bob puts up with her never ending expanding and changing gardens.

Almost all of the items in the back of this gallery came from Fukushima in the years after the typhoon which took out the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Tough to fish without a rod.

John has collected hundreds of messages in a bottle. He returns to sender after making a copy and often gets responses.

This is the oldest message in a bottle John ever found. He sent it back to the address in the letter. He never received a reply.

Until the 1990’s when the Japanese government cracked down on the practice, as Japanese sailors finished a bottle of Saki they would leave a little in the bottle and toss it into the sea for the Gods of the Sea to enjoy.

The Buoy Sculptures.

Peace…Wanderers in Wonder.
