Conde McCulloch, ‘The Bridge Builder of Oregon’ design this, the Rocky Point Bridge. Conde was a professor of engineering at Oregon State University and later the head of the Oregon Highway Department of Transportation. He spent two years in South America in the 1930’s designing bridges for the Pan American Highway. In all Conde designed over 600 bridges. Conde’s mantra was “build bridges efficiently, economically and with beauty”.

We were treated to a most amazing sight watching gray whales in the waters off Depoe Bay. We saw a big whale spout, seconds later a little one…a mama and her calf! We saw this several times over a period of thirty minutes or so before the whales took off for parts unknown. I tried, but never got a picture.
