Every Saturday from October thru April the lively town of La Quinta hosts an upscale art fair.

Glass sculptures, colorful and engaging.

Christopher Hopping of Hopping Mad Art paints colorful scenes of life beneath the sea. We got to talking Octopus. Those amazing creatures are sure having their moment. Chris is an octopus aficionado.

Chris’s Tickling the 88’s.
During the course of our conversation I told Chrius about Ray Nayler’s new book The Mountain In the Sea. The book was recently reviewed on NPR. An evil corporation has captured all of the Octopus to exploit them in the company’s quest to dominate the world through the AI capabilities of those amazing creatures. Of course, I told Chris about our friend Sy Montgomery’s classic The Soul of an Octopus. WhileI was rummaging through Chris’s note card collection selecting a few for purchase, Chris was ordering both books on Amazon. He also downloaded Ezra Klein’s interview with Sy from the NYT…total win-win situation.
Incidentally, Sy is working on a book about turtles while also writing a three part series for National Geographic which will accompany their upcoming series on octopus.

My sister Anne would appreciate this booth. She is quite the collage artist.

Couldn’t resist taking pictures of pictures of my beloved Southwest.

White Sands through the lens of my dearly departed friend, Clay Martin.

Sculptures by Felecia. Felecia is a world renown sculptor with her works being on display at some of the most visited museums in the country. Felicia’s work caught my eye because it looked so much like the art we would see at the galleries in Santa Fe, NM during our ten year stint in that lovely town. Felicia was very engaging as we shared our similar experiences in the Southwest. She has spent much time in both Santa Fe and, our home for twenty plus years, Durango. Felicia lives in Edwards, CO.
