Old Ellicott City, MD 4 June 2022

Old Ellicott City was founded in 1772. Many of the building are pre-1800.

The first station on the first RR line in the United States, Baltimore and Ohio. This is a prominent structure in downtown Old Ellicott City.

Charles Carrol of Carrollton, as he signed the Declaration of Independence (he wanted to make sure the King did not mistake another Carroll for himself) funded the Baltimore and Ohio. Charles was the largest landowner, largest slave owner and wealthiest man in the U.S at the time of the signing of the Declaration. He was an Irish Catholic. He fought for the rights of Roman Catholics all of his life. Like other slaveholding Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson comes to mind, he recognized slavery as an evil abomination. But, like other slaveholding Founding Fathers his ‘high ideals’ did not translate into real action as regards slavery.

Great name for this creative Old Ellicott City business.

A Southwestern landscape print for sale at an Artists Co-Op, price $275.

A Southwestern print by my late artistic friend, Clay.

Another Southwestern print for sale at the Co-Op, $175.

Another print from my friend Clay. Clay left me some 20,000 negatives of his Southwestern photography. Maybe Mary Ann and I will buy a gallery in Old Ellicott City in a few years and settle into life as purveyors of Clay’s Southwestern Collection.

Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Old Ellicott City where the greatest baseball player of all time, George Herman Ruth, was married. Amazing little gem of a village, Old Ellicott City, MD.

Peace…Wanderers in Wonder.
