Staunton, Virginia…lovely Colonial town with a wonderfully restored downtown. Birthplace of the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson.

Wilson’s beloved Pierce Arrow touring car. Wilson loved to have his chauffeur take him for afternoon drives. He himself never learned to drive and never had a driver’s license. However, his second wife, Edith Boling, a wealthy young modern lady, was the first woman to be issued a driver’s license in the District of Columbia. Wilson held a paternalistic view of African Americans and was of the belief that a woman’s place was in the home. He opposed women’s suffrage until the last minute when he gave an impassioned speech before Congress pleading for passage of the 19th Amendment. I believe his young, modern, car driving wife had something to do with Wilson’s change of heart.

INTO THE TREES…

As I have said previously, trees just muck up the scenery in much of the East through which we have been traveling.

Along the ‘Blue Trail’ in Middleton Park, Staunton, VA. One can’t see hardly anything, one certainly has to have the map skills of a God to navigate one’s way through these jungles.

And so, the local park service has marked the way of the ‘BLUE’ Trail.

The fastest growing sport in the United States…Pickleball. Played a bit with my racquetball partner Rick back in Durango. My sister, Ruth, and her husband gave us some lessons when we were in Apex, NC.
