Stonehenge — 15 March

Needed a break so we headed to the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.

Not really, Stonehenge II in Ingram, TX.

Al Shepperd’s neighbor, Doug Hill, in Hunt, TX had a few large boulders left over from a landscaping project. Doug and Al talked about what to do with them. They decided to place them in a field behind Al’s house. They really liked the look of their ‘sculpture’. They were inspired to recreate Stonehenge…and recreate they did. It is about two-thirds the size of the real Stonehenge. Ten years ago they donated their creation to the Hill Country Arts Foundation. It sits on the Foundation’s property in Ingram, TX and is one of the most visited sites in the Hill Country.

The Arts Foundation sponsors festivals…

The Celtic Festival in the early Spring.
A members only art show in the late Spring.
A juried art show in the Fall.
The works of local potters.
And shows throughout the year. They chose shows in the summer with many parts for kids as the local kids are on summer break. The performers are all local. The most famous local to hit the stage years ago was Tommy Tune.

This place is well worth a visit if one finds themselves in the lovely Texas Hill Country.

    I just asked the friends I lived with in Hill Country for 3 years why they never told me about this place—they said they didn’t know about it either (They’ve lived there for 20 years). Appalling! Makes me wonder what else I missed. Guess I’ll just have to go out & find out myself one of these days. (They said they’re going to go check it out too. You’ve lit a fire.Well done!) Take care
