We are in Wind River country… the glaciated land.

‘Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.’

         Joyce Kilmer

‘Damn trees,

Do nothing but muck up the scenery.’

         Clay ‘Troutfish’ Martin

A difference of opinion. My late great friend Troutfish liked his landscapes free from distractions…stark naked rocks, cliffs, promontories, and formations. Can’t say I disagree. The Wind River Country would suit him well.

Fremont Lake…thirteenth deepest lake in the U.S. While we have seen many Stand Up Paddle Boards lashed to the top of vehicles, we have seen no one paddle boarding on this lake…quite the chill if you take a spill.

Reading All The Wild That Remains by David Gessner. Fascinating melding of the works of the historian/novelist/college professor/environmentalist Wallace Stegner and the hobo/novelist/philosopher/curmudgeon/environmentalist Ed Abbey. Taking me back to many of the roads I have travelled. So far a very good read.

Heading down to Flaming Gorge, Vernal, The Grand Canyon of Utah and the Wedge tomorrow. Snow expected in the high country of Wyoming next week.
